In this week’s #MoneyMagic series episode, I sit down to talk to Busisiwe Hlatswayo, Head of School for Business Innovation and Technology (BIT) at AFDA Johannesburg.
To be honest, I have no clue how to describe this interview because it took on a life of its own (as most of my interviews do) and goes so deep into various aspects of money - we discuss entrepreneurship, failing in our first businesses, the shame that comes with failure as an entrepreneur, loyalty to family, paying off debt, releasing the vow of perfection and having a business breakthrough.
Let me start by saying Busi is doing incredible work in the entrepreneurship space with undergraduates in AFDA and I was lucky enough to be invited to evaluate the students on their business plans a few weeks ago, so I’ve been able to see her work upfront and personal.
Busi joined the #MoneyMagic course in September 2018; she was R700,000 in debt and explained to us that one of her biggest issues was that even though she’d gotten promoted often, had a BCom Degree and an MBA she’d never been the head of a department and also struggled to build a consistent stream of income in her business.
One of her first breakthroughs, when she started the course, was getting her job at AFDA and being made Head of Department. Yay!!
In this interview, she shares a lot about how the vow of perfection and her vow of loyalty to her family kept her in debt. A part of her wanted to get out of debt, but the other part of her didn’t feel safe getting rid of debt and these 2 parts would go toward with each other, which would lead to self-sabotage.
Busi explains how healing her trauma completely transformed her relationship with money and how she has paid off R500,000 (US$31,000) in the last 2 years and will be debt-free by next year (2021) and how she’s also had a business breakthrough by just learning to let go.

Episode 19: Case Study: Making US$2500/R40,000 every Month in Personal Fitness
Thursday Apr 08, 2021
Thursday Apr 08, 2021
In this week’s episode of the #MoneyMagic series I do a case study of one of the Money Magic’s students’ business (a side hustle in fitness training) and I look at how she can scale her business to R40,000/US$2500 a month by changing her pricing and her business model or using a mix of business models.
Creating a consistent income in our side hustle, business or income stream doesn’t have to take a long time and it doesn’t have to be difficult.

Episode 18: Earning more Money than ever during Covid
Thursday Apr 08, 2021
Thursday Apr 08, 2021
In this week's episode, I sat down with Nokuthula Mashaba to talk about her money journey and how she has made more money than ever during Covid.
When this pandemic started Nokuthula was working in Nigeria, when things started getting bad globally she had to move back to South Africa.
And just like everyone, she was worried about her finances - she was moving back to South Africa during a time of uncertainty and no guarantee of work or money in an industry that was being hard hit (TV industry).
She shared a lot of these fears with us in the #MoneyMagic student group and since none of us had any certainty about anything, we just told her to do the inner work, use the student group as a resource and trust the process.
There are some global and external events that none of us can change, but if we are lucky, we can choose how we respond to them, integrate them into our psyche and how we perceive them. This then changes the way we behave, especially with money.
Nokuthula's experience highlights this to an extent.
In this episode, she shares her money journey with us, how she has been healing the God Wound and her vows of loyalty to her family and how she started paying off debt and increasing her income.
This is another tear-jerker of an episode.

Episode 17: What it means to have Money as a Lover and Friend
Thursday Apr 08, 2021
Thursday Apr 08, 2021
In this week's episode of the #MoneyMagic series, I sat down with Mmatsie Mooki, a human rights lawyer, and I talk to her about her money journey.
I met Mmatsie at an event hosted by Lebo Pule in September 2017. Lebo had invited me as a speaker and we ended up going very deep on money trauma, in our conversation, and Mmatsie was one of the audience members.
I remember her clearly sharing that she always had money and she didn't know what it was like to be at negative in her bank balance.
But I do know that I triggered her because she realized that even though she was able to save, her income wasn't increasing rapidly after all these years of working.
A few days later, she signed up for the Fall In Love With Your Bank Account Challenge and started sending me messages about how this was some sort of witchcraft because money was just coming into her life 😂😂😂
In this interview, she shares with us why money is her lover, how money continues to show up for her even in the most stressful and painful moments and how she was able to create 3 extra streams of income in the last 3 years.
There are parts of this episode that are soo incredibly vulnerable and teary, so be prepared to have your heart cracked open.

Episode 16: How Trauma is Passed Down from Generation to Generation
Thursday Apr 08, 2021
Thursday Apr 08, 2021
My work is focused on understanding and healing trauma.
I know I call myself a money coach, but my focus is on understanding trauma and how it affects our money behaviour and our nervous system so we can start to integrate our lived experiences and build generational wealth.
This is why Wealthy Money's tag line is "The magic in healing."
It's in the healing that we start to create magic. The magic comes from us stepping into our own power and remembering who we truly are.
This is why I believe it's important to understand trauma and how it changes our perception of self, which leads to financial contraction.
So for this week's #MoneyMagic series, I invited one of my friends, Lori Jones, a licensed mental health clinician, based in Boston, MA to have a conversation with me about trauma and to share her understanding of trauma.
This episode is meant to educate and shed light on why we behave the way we do and also give us a deeper insight into why we get stuck or freeze when we are triggered and why we keep recreating cycles of behaviour.
Lori takes us on a journey to help us understand how our brains operate, how we respond to various situations and how trauma is passed down from generation to generation.
We also look at how collective trauma and vicarious trauma lead to collective archetypes, which further impact our behaviour.
Grab a cup of tea and a journal.

Episode 15: How Working Less can Actually Lead to Increased Income
Thursday Apr 08, 2021
Thursday Apr 08, 2021
In this week's episode of the #MoneyMagic series, I invited one of my private clients, Hlathikazi Beni to come have a sit down with me and to discuss her money story.
Hlathikazi is a serial entrepreneur and works in many businesses, including trucking and mining, so she's always had a way to make money but she believed her income was tied to the number of hours she worked and when Covid hit, she was worried that she'd have to work less and that would mean less money.
This is how she came to be a coaching client.
In the interview, she talks about how she had to have a mindset shift in how she saw money and how she started to realize that she doesn't have to always be working to make money and how constantly working was actually impacting her income growth.
She also shares how she now works 4 hours a day, has bought herself a house and pays herself a 6 figure salary monthly all because of the inner work and embracing ease.
We learn how working less has led to an increase in income in her business because she now has more time to focus and maximize on her current income streams.
This episode highlights the myth of hard work and how ease is actually the cousin of expansion and how doing less work in our businesses actually leads to increased income in a faster time period.
You don't want to miss this week's episode, especially if you're an entrepreneur.
It's super juicy.

This week for the #MoneyMagic series, I decided to a live class on how I was brought up to inky trust family and how that fed into my need for invisibility and affected my income.
Growing up I was taught to never share anything that was in my zone of genius, with people outside the family because they would bewitch me and try to take my gifts and kill me.
I was taught to hide any cool idea I had or cool thing I could do out of fear and only trust family to help me implement it because at least they wouldn't harm me.
So you can imagine how unsafe it feels for my mom to watch me do this work and be so visible.
My money journey has really been triggering to her.
VOWS OF INVISIBILITY & VOWS OF LOYALTY - HOW THEY HOLD US BACK
I was also taught to stay safe by hiring family to work in my business or help me implement ideas, because...witchcraft.
I saw my mom and uncle come up with insanely awesome business ideas, and out of fear they would fight with family members and force them to get involved in their business ventures and they would hire family cos they didn't want others to know about the idea or how the business was run etc.
There would be so many fights because some people were not doing the work and were refusing to come on board or were doing half jobs and the businesses would fail.
My mom and uncle were the ones with the vision and they expected everyone else to have the same vision and if they didn't, they forced the vision onto them so everyone could grow together and also it felt safer to them than working with outsiders.
What that meant is that their brilliance and awesomeness were the best-kept secret and it was hard for them to grow beyond a certain point and sell their products and services.
Because to sell our products and services, people have you know we exist and we actually have said gift/product/service.
This is what I discuss in today's class. So grab a cup of tea and click play in the video below.

In this week's episode of the #MoneyMagic series, I invited Dr Miranda Moloto (Mizo) to come to chat with us about her money journey and a phenomenon, we've both noticed on the #PropertyMagicians podcast.
Dr Miranda is the co-host of the Property Magicians Podcast and she is also a property investor and coach.
You may have noticed that in the Property Magicians Podcast, we tend to have more men than women guests - this is actually something that concerns us, because we ask 4 times as many women to come on the show as we do men, and we almost always get a NO from the women AND a YES from the men.
In fact, the men often ask for a second or third interview because of the deals they get from. Having been on the podcast.
So we started to dig deeper and asked some of the women why they wouldn't do the interviews; we kept hearing, "I cannot be on the podcast, I haven't done enough, I listened to others' interview and they are so much better than me" these are all variations of a "Not good enough" story or belief and it keeps us invisible and affects our finances.
So in this podcast Mizo shares with us her journey on unlayering her vow of invisibility and her not good enough story and how this story impacted her money story and how healing it is shifting everything.
She also shares the magic of getting out of debt twice and how she paid off R200,000 (US$12,000) in debt in 48 hours, but it actually took 6 months of inner work for that to happen and for her to find the solution.
As you can imagine - this episode is lit and inspiring.

Episode 11: Changing our Relationship with Money by Focusing on Pleasure and Fun
Thursday Apr 08, 2021
Thursday Apr 08, 2021
In this week's #MoneyMagic series, I sit down to chat with Musa Mathole, who describes herself as a mom and a wife, but also a soul on a journey.
Musa is a treasury accountant by profession and started to realize that there was more to her money journey when her professional financial knowledge wasn't translating into her personal finances.
She found that she could manage millions at work and help the company invest and grow its money, but when it came to her finances, it was a challenge and the old ways of budgeting weren't working.
When she joined the Bank Account Challenge, she learned about budgeting differently - she learned the importance of spending according to your values.
And when she joined the #MoneyMagic course she learned about the importance of prioritising pleasure and how this was the key to changing our financial habits.
Of course, this is the opposite of what we've been taught about money, but she shares how as she healed and allowed herself to have fun with money, her relationship with money changed, to the point where she hasn't worked in over a year and yet her family financials haven't been affected.
Musa also shared how she and her husband are teaching their children how to invest in shares so that they know there are other ways to make money and build wealth. And how she's been using some of the course meditations with her children.
This is such an insightful episode on money and imparting our values around money to our children.

In today's episode of the #MoneyMagic series, we talk to Wisani Khethiwe Shibambu about her journey to launching her first business and breaking cycles of debt.
Wisani is a Money Magic student, but she's also Wealthy Money's virtual assistant and is responsible for the administration and technical support in the company.
She shares how she spent 3 years teaching English in Japan (and even speaks some Japanese) and then decided to come home and figure out what she wanted to do next.
Coming home was tougher than she thought and she struggled to find employment. She then decided to use the skills she learned in Japan and her corporate experience, to create employment for herself.
She followed her soul and after a few months launched her virtual assistant business and got clients in a short space of time. Wealthy Money actually became a client during Covid!
I got to chat about how she got herself out of the cycle of credit card debt, the challenge of entrepreneurship, paying herself first and how money is actually a tool to expansion and discovering our own divinity.
